Needed something soothing today. Knew I’d find it in one of Mollie Katzen’s cookbooks. (This is my second copy of this one!) Curried squash and mushroom soup. Smells so good in here. Just needs that dollop of yogurt. Mmmm.

The Affordable Care Act tax credits expire in five days.

House Republicans refuse to come back to Washington to vote on an extension.

You deserve better.

Special thank you to the service members, first responders, law enforcement, and health care workers spending today away from their families. We are grateful for you.

First of all, words like “cited” & “argued” have meaning. “Lies being spread from Satan”??? Uh, citation needed, as they say

Second, how do faculty continue to teach here? How are there not walkouts, resignations?

Even if instructor had fucked up (not true), removing her is an insane overreaction

When this administration cuts support to public schools, it's those most in need who are hurt the worst. Rural schools rely more heavily on federal funds—when that disappears, important programs get cut, teachers are out of a job & students are left worse off.

Rural schools hit by Trump's grant cuts have few options for making up for the lost money
Many rural school districts around the United States are having a hard time making up for federal grant money that’s been cut by the Trump administration

Steves purchased the property to prevent it from closing. Many homeless people had come to depend on the Lynnwood Hygiene Center, which had operated rent-free on the property since 2020.

In Virginia, we know the value of unions. They built our shipyards, protected our firefighters, and helped generations climb into the middle class. That’s why I proudly support the PRO Act.

Final note re Elise Stefanik #ny21. Her exit plan leaves Stefanik with a full year to wield power. She has a fat campaign war chest, her vote in the House is invaluable, but she has a long list of grievances against GOP leaders. What will she do with her anger, freedom and power? Next 12 months = 😐

Small farms are getting priced out of the system.

They’re forced to pay hundreds, even thousands, a year for food-safety audits just to access wholesale markets. Big farms can absorb it. Small farms can’t. The Cutting COSTS Act fixes that by reimbursing those costs and leveling the playing field.

Grocery bills keep going up while local food disappears from store shelves. That’s backwards. I introduced the bipartisan Cutting COSTS Act to bring down grocery bills for working families — and help small farms get their produce into grocery stores. It’s common sense.

The U.S. lost 105,000 jobs in October.
Unemployment is now at its highest level since 2021.

Behind these statistics are families facing real uncertainty.

President Trump, your job is to make people's lives easier, not harder.
The US gained 64,000 jobs in November but lost 105,000 in October; unemployment rate at 4.6%
The United States gained a decent 64,000 jobs in November but lost 105,000 in October as federal workers departed after cutbacks by the Trump administration, the government said in delayed reports.

Too many Americans are one flat tire, one medical bill, or one missed paycheck away from financial crisis.

That’s why I'm leading a bipartisan bill to give working families a safer, more effective tool to handle emergencies without sacrificing their long-term retirement security.

As the only Virginian on the House Agriculture Committee, I hear it constantly: “We want to sell more local food, but the red tape is too expensive.” My new Cutting COSTS Act cuts that red tape so families can buy more fresh, affordable local produce.

Nearly 400k Virginians rely on the ACA, and most need tax credits to afford it. But Republicans are ending those credits on 12/31.

If they let that happen, coverage could cost 30-50% more, and over 100k Virginians could lose insurance overnight. It’s time to act. Let’s vote on the clean extension.

If Trump + Hegseth think these baseless attacks will stop
@captmarkkelly.bsky.social from fighting for our democracy, they’ve got another thing coming.

As a former JAG, I’m ready to step back into the role for Mark anytime. Trust me, Mr. President and Ssecretary: you don’t want to pick this fight.
I learned about the DoD investigation by tweet, and I learned they’re “escalating” it the same way last night. This just shows again how Pete Hegseth is not a serious person. And there's nothing he can do to stop me from fighting for this country.
