For at least a few seconds I didn't think about Aquaman and instead thought about Liam O'Brien voicing someone else.

They had a whole Magic the Gathering Set for Final Fantasy. Selphie and Irvine only existed in the backgrounds of a couple arts.

Though a push on this does mean more people get to meet Magilou and Eizen and Velvet and everybody.

Berseria's cast is one of the highest points of an already excellent title.

On everything else, everything goes. Color is so much less important on the art of a spell or creature because in 99% of instances that isn't a characteristic used. Recognizability for the character rather than the color

The Frame is doing a lot of lifting as well, so some Alts can be more variable

Was talking with folks yesterday and sorta working through thoughts on Magic Cards and Art Colors.

Lands generally like to have coloration that matches what they generate. Triomes and somes basics combined with special treatments can make it terribly difficult to tell that you opponent has UU up

I love Kamen Rider using "wiggling a tiny toy" for a character so much. Specifically Kivala is one of the best little toys for this they've had. Just a tiny tiny little bat on a string or shaking!

Avatar Destiny shows the Avatar Reincarnation Cycle, a creature learning they are the next in a long line, gaining power from the past, adding to that power and sending it to the future. In Magic, this matches with "Destiny" enchantments showing a heritage that grants powerful, recurring abilities

Accumulate Wisdom is a piece representing a rule of Wan Shi Tong's library, knowledge growing with the addition of your own knowledge, matching with Accumulated Knowledge in cost and mechanics, growing with itself and other Lessons added to the Spirit Library.

Also it's a draw 3 for 1U holy smokes.

Zhao's card captures a moment at the end of Book 1 where he declares himself the conquerer, attacking one of the moon spirits and causing a wound to the world. His 7 activation (try firebending) calls directly to Blood Moon, which matches the visuals and the mechanics together in worldly imbalance.

The Ascensions here in Avatar show our main cast using and growing with their bending, we see in a myriad of ways in the series, here shown as an initial use of the ability, and a mastery after repetition.

But additionally, we're matching the Zendikar Ascensions, growing until a mastery effect.

One of the outstanding bits of Avatar's Magic designs is having cards that are clearly and cleanly flavored mechanically for a character/event in Avatar, but also match up with Magic Mechanics/Design Language in a way that converses with older designs.

I want to look at some cards that best do this

I know that with Lorwyn Eclipsed being a single set for a Lorwyn return it's much less likely, but I will be crossing my fingers for my friend Mulldrifter to make an appearance

In Dragon Quest Qwednesday, today's the jump into Post-game DQ7. We've got a few of these mysterious fragments to find a use for, and Vocations to get our party up to speed in.

See you tonight!

You might think this is me building the Mimic Museum up, but this post is actually brought to you by trying to fit Kamen Rider Hibiki thoughts in a single bsky post.

Seriously I have so many words about Hibiki and I need to put them somewhere, somehow. There's nothing else like it.

The last film was Demon Knight (Tales from the Crypt) which was my favorite of the night, CCH Pounder and Jada Pinkett absolutely killing it, and Billy Zane having a standout performance with all the temptation scenes.

As a capstone for this knight, just a perfect choice.

From Beyond follows on previous Schlocktobers having multiple Reanimator films, and it's always great to see Jeffrey Combs. The wildest of the bunch, it's got excellent effects and performances across the board. Not my favorite of the night, but certainly an effective one.

Maximum Overdrive was a movie where a lead looks at the camera and says "the machines went into Maximum Overdrive" and all clapped and cheered. Pretty awful as a film (we're in that sewer so much), but a ton of trucks blow up to ACDC so who can say.

Also, an end title card to rival Blood Debts.

Creepshow was a set of 5 shorter stories, ranging from ok to quite good. Stand outs to me were Stephen King finding a meteor and Leslie Nielsen on a beach. A fine starter, a bit uneven (as an anthology can be) but more ups than downs.

Schlocktoberfest 4 at the Rivoli was a blast, much like the past three. Love to go out with my friends and just watch a bunch of movies! The films this year all were adaptations/anthologies in some way, with a bit longer run time.

I also gotta directly call out Turtles Forever, for many reasons. An extremely unique Gifts Ungiven take, with fixed text for "Pick 4", along with some of the cutest flavor/art that it could be. The 4 different era Turtles with different art styles, along with the very casual flavor text feels great
