Film composer, conductor, bandleader and trumpeter John Barry was born in York on this day in 1933. He was also a classical fan, choosing Mahler 9 in both of his appearances on Desert Island Discs in 1967 and 1999. You can see his choices and hear the interview here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p...

Oooof - that was hard work, but exactly the kind of game you have to be able to grind out if you want to win the title.

Maybe a bit of a hangover from midweek, but Eze had the moment of quality to earn three points.

With Man City and Liverpool both losing, this was a really big win.

What a bloody brilliant performance that was....
Absolutely delighted for Gyokeres, I literally don't care how he got the goals, he deserves them and needed them.
Martinelli looking like he's getting back to his best, his first time finish was class
Gabriel... Simply the best ❤️

This was the first time since November 2003 that Arsenal didn't face a shot on target in successive Premier League games, with the second game on that occasion also against Fulham.

I wonder how many goals Arsenal would have to win by away at a mid table opponent setting up in a low/mid block before we’d stop spending the two hours after the match arguing over whether the attack was set up right/did well enough

Odd how quiet it’s gone with MSM over Farage’s dodgy house dealings in #Clacton clouded by a blanket of his lies..

Have MSM lost interest whether he avoided stamp duty❓🤔

So it only matter if it’s Angela Rayner in which case the media furore is deafening.. but as it’s Farage it’s hush so schhh 🤫🤫

The Mirror can reveal that Reform Leader Nigel Farage changed his story twice over the purchase of his luxury Clacton pad, which saved him and his partner £44k in stamp duty

Read these words posted online by Palestinians in Gaza. Let them horrify you. Because this reality is intolerable and it cannot continue.

As trucks of aid – food, water, medicine, and hygiene supplies – wait at the border, millions of people are hungry. Stop this catastrophe.

I only discovered Quatuor Zaïde's Op. 50 set last week, and within seconds I knew it was going to be special. The music dances on air, every phrase animated from within. These are players with a hotline to Haydn's quicksilver wit, imagination, and sense of fun. Highly recommended!

Mine: Carl Nielsen.

Outstanding thread.
A core feature of the Trump regime is its embrace of "authoritarian democracy", as a battering ram with which to demolish any obstacle to its power.

The very notion of "authoritarian democracy" can sound contradictory.

But it's an old & dangerous idea, that needs to be better understood. [THREAD]

Happy #NewReleaseFriday! There are more exciting symphony & orchestral #NewReleases than I can wave a baton at this week: rediscovered repertoire, another "complete" Bruckner 9, a punchy podium master's second Brahms cycle and much, much more.
