Made chili today with some cornbread because it was that type of day.

Also I just finished building the X Mansion and forgot to share.
It’s the Lego version of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youth. The X Mansion. With a purple Sentinel attacking and Magneto and the core X-Men in all their Claremont glory. You should be able to hear the theme. (And if you say “what theme” I am not sure we can be friends.)

Someone in the neighborhood put out a cat trap.

What has changed is simple: people are scared of crossing Trump this time. In researching this piece, I interviewed dozens of figures, including lawmakers, private sector executives, retired senior military figures and intelligence chiefs, current and former Trump officials, Washington lawyers and foreign government officials. Such is the fear of jail, bankruptey or professional reprisal, that most of these people insisted on anonymity. This was in spite of the fact that many of the same people also wanted to emphasise that Trump would only be restrained by powerful voices opposing him publicly. At times, it has felt like trying to report on politics in Turkey or Hungary.

Sara Whitmer • • • 1h • I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into Fscist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town. Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming. Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance. 75 12 comments

My then early teen daughter and I dressed as Rey and Luke, respectively. They aren’t camera-perfect costumes, but they were pretty dang good if I say so myself.

Speaking of cats, my daughter is taking a just for fun art class and she sent me these two pictures of the late great Murder Floof.

Neighborhood Halloween decorations are on point this year.

Caramel Apple Old Fashioned 44 Yield: 1 is easily multiplied Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 15 mins Total Time: 30 mins This caramel apple old fashioned will warm you up this fall! Bourbon, homemade cider caramel, apple cider and bitters make this super delish. Ingredients OLD FASHIONED • 1.5 ounces bourbon • 1 dash bitters • 1 ounce apple cider • 1 teaspoon homemade cider caramel, recipe below • green apples, thinly sliced, for garnished QUICK CIDER CARAMEL • 1 cup brown sugar • 1/3 cup apple cider • 1/4 cup unsalted butter • 1/4 cup heavy cream • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract • 1/4 teaspoon salt • pinch of cinnamon Instructions OLD FASHIONED Fill a glass with ice. Add the bourbon, bitters, cider and caramel to a cocktail shaker and shake for a few seconds until combined. Pour over ice and garnish with green apple slices. QUICK CIDER CARAMEL 1 Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk to combine, then cook and stir until the mixture is bubbling. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes until it slightly thickens and is smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature - it will thicken as it cools. Store in a sealed jar in the fridge.

I feel I have done okay as a parent when my adult child not only takes the time to stop and look at the wooly bear caterpillars, but also sends me a picture.
