A gynaecologist who removed two patients' ovaries without consent at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital has been deemed 'fit to practise' by a medical tribunal. Dr Ali Shokouh-Amiri faced more than 100 allegations of inappropriate behaviour with 24 instances proven but the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service ruled that he has "shown good insight into his failures and put in place procedures and actions to address his failings to ensure they do not happen again". It added that Dr Shokouh-Amiri completed a course on professional boundaries, has an "otherwise unblemished career" and was supported by extensive testimonials which "demonstrated his excellence as a clinician". He is currently working as a Consultant at Southend Hospital and is employed by the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The Tribunal concluded there is a "low risk of Dr Shokouh-Amiri putting patients at a risk of unwarranted harm" and gave him a warning. Allegations were made about inappropriate behaviour involving six patients, relating to when Dr Shokouh- Amiri worked in Guernsey. The proven allegations include that he: • Removed the ovaries of Patient C and Patient D without consent, with "no clinical indication" for the removal of Patient D's ovaries • Touched Patient D's clitoris Kissed and hugged Patient F on two separate occasions • Rubbed and/or touched Patient A's leg Performed multiple intimate examinations without a chaperone present
