What I don’t get is why any sensible, long-term profitable bookie would take significant action on prop bets like these. The response in cutting max bet amounts should have already been in place imo.

Lots of ways to create competitive balance if that’s the objective - random strike zone, handicap pitchers with arm or leg weights that change by inning, make batters hit with a randomly assigned bat - most all of them bad. Injuries to top players (not by design I admit) are common and the cruelest.
