mRNA vaccines are a game-changer. Faster to develop, generally safer, easy to modify, huge potential for wider applications (e.g. cancer). If the vaccine has been approved, it's already been thoroughly tested in randomised controlled trials. Nobody's trying to poison anyone with these vaccines.

I learned yesterday that my elderly parents weren't going to renew their house insurance "because it's all now online and too daunting."

Suffice it to say I said I'd help them sort it, but I wonder how many elderly are losing services because the Internet is scary/impersonal to them.

Since then, I've argued that if we care about saving US lives in expectation, advance capacity for producing bird flu vaccine offers by far the greatest expected return on investment.

Emissions from Land use and forestry (LULUCF) are set to nearly double, and match emissions from transport (!) in the 2030s, as forests are harvested and become a major carbon source.
