The lingering fear of a Wood Sprite may be measured in the special treatment its former home tree receives even when it has been vacated. At Panstone Green, the old residence of John-of-the-Whips is still given appeasements, receives parish council support. Terror tarries. – Dr. M. Benn

Literally, just "make the government shittier, everything more expensive, and life harder for every single non-billionaire in America" as a platform. It's sort of impressive actually!

multiple issues here:
-it’s unamerican and unconstitutional for the federal govt—and certainly the executive on its own, arbitrarily and in secret—to create a speech code for visa holders
-even if that was permissible, suddenly accosting her in the street and abducting her is wildly disproportionate
Marco Rubio on Rumeysa Ozturk: "We revoked her visa ... once you've lost your visa, you're no longer legally in the United States ... if you come into the US as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don't want it. We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country."

This is a good idea. A daily Democratic press conference with a consistent, skilled spokesperson who covers two things:

1. What DOGE and the Trump administration did to the American people today

2. What Democrats are doing in response
I firmly believe @petebuttigieg.bsky.social should lead a daily press conference. We are in desperate need of simple, unified messaging
Waging a procedural war and an information war will at least delay — and possibly prevent — an actual war. I don't get why Democratic leaders don't see the necessity here.

The real MeToo “cancel culture” was what happened to the women and other victims who came forward. They were retraumatized, harassed, humiliated, sued, fired, and blacklisted. Then they were the subject of a revisionist history that MeToo went “too far” and deserved a reactionary backlash

If the president can ignore court orders and illegally circumvent, Congress, there is no Constitution. It’s gone. There’s no enumerated right that the president can’t take from you, no law Congress can pass that is binding, and no court that can protect you from any of it. It’s the whole ballgame.

Misinfo: bad information.
Disinfo: bad information circulated in order to bring about specific goals (the "d" is for "deliberate," I like to say)
Counter misinfo: fact-checking
Counter disinfo: debunking; is highly public, often confrontational, can appear very partisan, and makes you sound nuts
Gestures vaguely at @brooklynmarie.bsky.social to beg for another breakdown of misinformation vs disinformation and the 'counter' versions of each. I want to make an info graphic of this. Feels like a 4 circle venn though 😮‍💨
This is why they're attacking science and education: if you can only win with disinformation, data become a threat.

President Trump and Elon Musk have taken steps in the past two weeks to close the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, the government's lead agency for delivering humanitarian aid.

Here's what USAID does, and why the new administration is targeting it.
What Is USAID, and Why Do Trump and Musk Want to Close It?
The agency’s funding accounts for a tiny portion of the federal budget, but its structure may have made it an easy target for Trump-era cost-cutting.
