If you don’t see the fascism, it’s because you don’t want to see it, or because you’re ok with it.

An executive order by Donald Trump would install political appointees at the apex of the scientific process, with a mandate to edit or discard science that did not meet the administration’s criteria and potentially discipline scientists, critics have warned

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read.

He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords

Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

Yet again I am rejected from an apartment application because I'm an immigrant. It doesn't matter that I've been renting for three years in this city or that I have a job here, landlords want someone who is "more established in Canada."

It's so frustrating to have to deal with.

ProPublica looked into science grants that Ted Cruz's team flagged as "radical" and "neo-Marxist" and, uh.

This would be good comedy if it didn't matter so much www.propublica.org/article/ted-...

The REV Saint-Denis is recording days with literally zero cyclists because it's totally impassable*—yet people are still complaining that bike lanes get cleared before roads and sidewalks!

(*I’m not complaining. Extraordinary circumstances and all.)

Any time you are told the government can't do something because it would be too expensive, understand that is a lie. Cost does not matter as long as it is aligned with what the institution wants. Unfortunately for us housing the homeless, healing the sick, and feeding the hungry aren't important
In preparation for today’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, state police forced over 100 homeless men and women onto buses under threat of arrest, dumping them in an unheated warehouse. Tents destroyed, belongings lost. Press are barred from the warehouse.

The price tag for this cruelty? $17.5 million
Louisiana coerced unhoused people into an unheated warehouse – and paid $17.5m for it
Dozens of New Orleanians were bused to a site with insufficient heating and blankets days before the city is to host the Super Bowl

Elected democrats may differ from their constituents in that they enjoy total financial security and are unaffected by the kind of precarity that most americans experience but there's one thing about them that is extremely relatable which is that they'd rather post than do their jobs

Patel is not responding to questions about his own statements by claiming they're "grotesque mischaracterizations." He has called the mainstream media the most powerful enemy the US has ever seen. In what context is that not a scary worldview for a Trump FBI Director?

I think the next thing to try to cut out of my life is going to be YouTube. Outside of the barrage of shorts it's very easy to just sit and want hours of content and lose an entire afternoon or evening. Probably going to take my money out of premium and put it towards a more mindful platform
