I don't know how true this is, but I heard recently that in China there are entire universities where old people can just go and learn things freely all day long. Something like that seems so much more dignified for the elderly than nursing homes, or turning the federal gov into a nursing home.

There's sort of a fine line to walk... I agree it is absolutely 100% elder abuse keeping these ghouls in office, but at the same time, they are making their own choices to stay in office forever. Senators never retire because losing their cushy Senate benefits basically amounts to death for them

It all sounds like a nightmare. I dropped out in late 2019 right before covid too, and between that and widespread AI use it makes me feel like I got out of academia right before it became true hell

In the coming days I really just wanna get my own game out there and be positive. There'll be time to be catty about Cosmere this winter when it's cold and dark and I run low on the vitamin D that suppresses the beast inside me

The entire tome is so dense with dry and exhaustive lore explaining every little thing, inbetween the mechanics themselves, that I'm really stunned the kickstarter made that much money and went so far. But I guess publishing media is easy mode when mormons are so eager to financially back eachother.

It's insane to me that the wisdom of 20 years ago, "comment sections are always rancid and never worth engaging in", is no longer common sense in spite of being more true than ever before

I have gotten a lot of mileage out of being in many of them, because having followers does mean your stuff gets seen more. But when someone hits 'follow all' on a starter pack, they're not really actively following you, you still have to post good stuff to turn those people into active followers.
