I do not recall a 24 hour or one week news cycle with more disturbing news about the state of the presidency and the US government in it than those of today and the past seven days. January 6 was nothing compared to this. But make no mistake, this too is the gov't being torn apart by a mob of thugs.

100%. And not just Americans. It was a theme of my undergraduate thesis (on factors affecting food choice). I loudly maintain to anyone who'll listen that convenience will be the death of all of us. (See also "An Inconvenient Truth")
Americans care about convenience above everything else, as long as fascism doesn't interfere with that then they won't care.

Prior to Covid it was normal to mask in the NICU. People understood that premature babies are as vulnerable as they come and need to protected.
Now? Gowns & gloves but no masking.
The damage caused by anti mask rhetoric will be felt for years (possibly decades) to come.
