My great-grandfather Cesare was a baker in Italy. He came to America with only $20 and dreams of a better future. He dropped dead mid-shift at a commercial bakery, felled by a gas embolism from leaky ovens. Grandpa had to work full time after that, at 8 years old.

For no reason, I am thinking of my grandmother's dad, who died during a shift at the factory 100 years ago.
He was emaciated and so sick he couldn't speak, but he still had to go to work. They found him in the bathroom, "lying in an immense pool of blood which was welling from his mouth and nose."
