Found during excavations at #Vindolanda fort just south of Hadrian’s wall this writing tablet made of thin sheets of wood was uncovered dating between AD95-105 to Sulpicia Lepidina from Claudia Severa inviting her to a birthday party. The final lines are in Claudia’s own hand

I took the opportunity during this dry weather to revisit the Roman bridge abutment on the North Tyne close to Chesters Fort #HadriansWall

A view of the northeast corner of Vindolanda looking south. Over the next few years this area will be explored including this years excavation within the fort. The walls show constant rebuilding since their construction in AD214 but 8 other forts lie beneath since the founding of the site in cAD85.
