My story is just like your’s (and at the same universities🙂): a grant funding my undergraduate education, and then fellowships funding my graduate education in the USA. Nothing that I have achieved since then would have been possible without this support.
So I came to the US on a fellowship that enabled me to work as a TA and pay my tuition out of the 11K I earned per year. I have absolutely no idea how I stretched 11K to pay 5K of tuition *and* live on. But I did.

Somehow I had missed that Dame Cleo Laine had left us, at the grand age of 97. I met her at Winfield House in London, at an event honoring Dave Brubeck, and she was lovely. I was able to tell her that I had grown up listening to her music.
