I did it about forty years ago. The rolling sea and the smell of diesel and chips still haunt me. I was so sick on the crossing that I looked immediately for a land-based way to get back. It would have taken an hour longer than if I had waited for a return on the boat. Don't do it.

He was indeed a gentle, kindly man. He would offer any support generously. Although his struggles with English early on were the cause of wild hilarity among us, he was actually a profound teacher who integrated Alexander into the core of the college's approach. I often thought of him.
