This. The Trump brand of fascism is to claim you believe whatever you need to and claim ignorance of anything inconvenient in order to be granted the power you seek.
I think this is the central challenge of defeating Trump. If we can develop the capacity to say “No, you’re lying, what you are actually doing is pursuing nakedly authoritarian aims for disgusting reasons,” we can beat him. If our institutions remain incapable of that, we’re doomed.
