This old tweet made the front page of reddit, or so I hear.

Supporting bathroom, sports and healthcare bans for trans people means signing on to a moral panic about problems that DON'T EXIST.

When people say Democrats should "moderate" on these issues, they are suggesting that we legislate a group out of public life based on lies.

Weird how free speech absolutists are all “we gotta close the border to preserve our culture” and never consider that maybe their culture just lost in the marketplace of ideas?

Too many kids have watched videos of people using bike lanes in NL
Personally I think we should respond to this result by making our country do things better, but scolding young people for believing true things works too.

I know that USA vs Canada is the oldest rivalry in international cricket, but tbh The Ashes are a bit more exciting.

Watching NZ vs AUS and I really wish there was a way they could both lose.

(I know a draw is also bad for their WTC standings, but that's not gonna happen if Australia are 6 wickets down after 70 overs).

Important questions:

Who are the worst cricket fans and why is it the English?

Now that he's on 499 test wickets, I have to ask again: where does the myth that Ashwin isn't good outside of Asia come from?

His average and strike rate are better in the West Indies than they are in Asia. Also his economy is great everywhere.

I honestly don't understand cricket fans. England were ahead of the over rate every session without any new incentives and I'm still seeing people online saying the only way to fix over rates is harsher penalties.

Very mixed feelings about the current India-M Test series against South Africa.

I don't love that it lines up directly with my sleep time here in GMT-5. But, on the other hand, if it continues to go as badly as it has, I won't need to see any of it.

Now that she's had her test debut I think we can all agree that Jemimah Rodrigues is just fucking fantastic. I hope she gets to play many more tests.

If you needed any evidence of the contempt that the BCCI holds for fans of the Indian cricket team, you need only to look at the fact that the men's and women's teams were scheduled to play at the same time today.

I was glad that the men's game was rained out.

New episode of Go Kvetch is out!

It's a pretty fun one. If you haven't listened before, this might be a fun place to start.

I'm deeply conflicted. I love to see good bowling, but I would also be happy if I never had to watch Sophie Ecclestone bowl against India.

Here's hoping that Shafali and the Harmonster can bring this home.

My 18 month old daughter started crying uncontrollably when Tim Southee lost his wicket. Am I accidentally raising a blackcaps fan? Or is she just tired because it's nearly midnight?
December 2, 2023 at 4:53 AM
Tim Southee's on 20 off 12. Did he forget that this is a test match?
December 2, 2023 at 4:22 AM
And Williamson is gone! I think this is the high note on which I should stop watching for the night, given that my daughter is going to be awake and eager for company in less than 5 hours.

I desperately want to see more defensive play by the Bangladeshi tail-enders. They don't need more runs. They need to keep New Zealand from starting their innings til day five. The time limit will push them into risky play.

This second Bangladesh innings is definitely not off to the start I might have hoped for. #nzvban

The ICC decision to ban transwomen from international cricket is a disgusting reactionary move.

But the fact that they claim that they did it to preserve the integrity of the women's game is even more patently false.

If that was truly their priority, Afghanistan would not still be a full member.

Turns out I was right to worrry
I don't like being disappointed by a South African loss, but I didn't want to face Australia in the final. You just can't trust them to lose when they're supposed to.
November 20, 2023 at 6:57 AM
Why? Just what does Ravichandran Ashwin need to do to get selected for finals?

I think we ultimately lost on fielding. But we had a slow pitch against Australia. That should have Ashwin written all over it.

Because of some weird work stuff this week I was awake for very different parts of the India-NZ game than I usually am. Unfortunately this means that I managed to watch like 30 overs of the chase without seeing a single one of Shami's wickets.
