Every spring:
Me "does the sunshine on the heatpump mean it is currently sunny and I want it to be cooler, or that I need sunshine to warm up?"
I've no idea how I always talk myself in to complete confusion over apparently universal icons

A sad little #cartoon today about the number of people, and particularly skilled medical people, leaving Aotearoa New Zealand.

First bake of buttermilk rusks in the oven.
A south African joy.
Just wondering why I chose an internet recipe over hunting down one of my son's Ouma's....
Fingers crossed....

Favourite birthday gift from my wife. Hard to appreciate just how layered this is in a photo 😀

My birthday this week. Have asked for the same cake as last year.
Just told my wife (bless her), pound cake meant ratios not a cake made with a pound of butter
A) our family is just three
B) The price of a whole pound of butter....

How have I spent our 30 degree day, which I happened to have rostered off?
4 loads of washing, and somehow find myself with 5 types of dessert wontons folded ready to air fry....

20+ years in, the mother-in-law is arriving to stay tomorrow, and I find myself wiping the fridge shelves.
What's with that brain?

2 years ago I put on an instrumental of AC/DC Thunderstruck and my wife (born 1980) claimed she'd never heard it before.
Tonight I made onion rings to go with dinner. And apparently she last had these last century.
We've been together near 24 years and I've been eating onion rings and she's not?

So stoked to win the team nosing competition at dramfest. Mostly because I realized after putting our sheet in, it was going to be frigging awkward going back in to the shop to ask for nice bottles if we scored zero.
But also, amazing prize pack!! We EACH got this set of bottles.

After telling Mr 16 I'd like him to wear a shirt to a nice restaurant, wondering what the dress standards are to meet our new lawyers. Flour coated Tshirt okay so long as I don't leave a trail of flour?

I'm very late to air fryers, as wife said they'd use too much bench space.
She's used it nearly every day since it arrived so I am now preparing a three course air fryer dinner....
If I have to escalate further, maybe I'll be researching air fryer degustations

So Lester Levy has gotten rid of Shane Reti and now Margie Apa.... presumably they'll now be looking for a CEO who agrees they can provide more health care for less...

what's hilarious about this anti-cycle lane bullshit from councillor calvert is that her "look! no bikes in the cycle lane" photo is also a "look! no cars on the road" photo

Me, idly wondering how long we could live off the food in the house for.
We'd certainly be hungry long before we needed to be sober due to overpurchasing (collecting) alcoholic beverages.
I guess there is energy if not nutrition in the beverages.

Me having a wee rant about Simeon Brown being health minister
Teen "is he the one that looks like David Seymour's nephew?"

Off to bed. Goodbye to 2024. It's been less hard on our whānau than many, but sad lost of my best mate (17/1/24).
Hoping 2025 is calmer than I imagine - not sure if it getting older or the world situation that makes me worry.
Best wishes to all.

Try not to drink too much midweek.
@southstarbrew.bsky.social making it count. Great beer. I'm not sure anyone else buys just well brewed stouts with no adjuncts but I'm happy

Lovely dram with some home made panforte.
After (hopefully) the last lawn mow before Christmas, and a bit of present wrapping.
Never mind the warm temps outside, sherried whisky for the win with the dried fruits

19th anniversary of our civil union this week. Wondering how many of the 248 couples that had a civil union in 2005 celebrating this year?

Didn't have the right size glass bowl this year so not so photogenic as everyone else's but delicious:
Spiced cherry and plum jelly
White chocolate custard
Rhubarb, black Doris plums and cherries
Cream and sponge
Optional port :-)

Me reading a paper.
Why does this seem familiar?
Finally, my brain "it's Dr Bex from that site previously known as..."
It's not quite the same as knowing the author but NZ remains a small place ;-)

I was so impressed with my handmade long weekend gyoza.
Teen food critic. Ate more than two dozen. Thought they were "a bit oily".
Wife, wryly "he's going to find flatting a shock"
