How they sold the invasion is entirely orthogonal to this comment. Pundits who supported the invasion took the viewpoint that the occupation would have gone better if they had only “done it right”. The current admin is orders of magnitude less competent, and no one should fool themselves.

Amazing how the things to "fix the crisis of men and boys" are always things that are retrograde for women.

It's OK. I'm a good cook and I'm actively trying to make sure that bad dishes don't show up at the table. We often have non-family guests and they do sometimes show up with extra dishes but I do the core things--I'm not counting on anyone bringing a Thanksgiving staple.

Look at the top Pentagon leadership that was purged. Black and/or female.

The onion lie, though, is because they think no one will make the recipe if the real time to caramelize onions is included in the recipe.

I also hate recipes that don’t include water in the ingredient list, and recipes that divide an ingredient and don’t specify in the ingredient list.

Normal people use the cooking time to decide when to start making dinner. The worst is when you start reading a recipe with a 30 min cook time and the first step is prepare marinade and marinate meat for 2hrs up to overnight.
November 24, 2025 at 1:22 PM
The other thing is cooking times not matching the total cooking time of the steps; it’s actually the active engagement of the cook. If a stew is 30 min of chopping vegetables and browning meat followed by 2 hrs of simmering stove top, the cooking time is 2.5 hrs, not 30 min of active engagement.

The mise en place is part of the prep time; it needs to be included in the recipe—there is no sous-chef in the home kitchen.
November 24, 2025 at 1:22 PM
A lot of recipes lie because it takes a home cook making an unfamiliar recipe longer than it takes a professional cook or recipe tester. Another lie is excluding the prep time: the timer starts when you start recipe step 1, not when you start dicing the one cup of diced onion in the ingredient list.

Astronaut and decorated military veteran. You’d think that would make him a shoo-in but today’s right wing media environment would have found a way to smear Dwight D. Eisenhower as unfit to lead. He’s more centrist than my personal preference but I wouldn’t hesitate to vote for him.

It is important not to ignore these factors. One of the hallmarks of this administration seems to be to drive women in general from the workforce, and black women, as the most vulnerable part of the workforce, are taking the brunt of the first wave.
November 24, 2025 at 12:52 PM
This article mentions almost none of this; the job loss among black women is treated as sui generis, with only the barest mention of federal jobs deep in the article. Given the start date of the job loss is February (when DOGE cuts began), I wonder if a causal analysis was included and then cut.

Another factor is likely the attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion by people who use DEI as a racial slur, and the gutting of civil rights enforcement across the board by focusing on the oppression of white men. Discriminatory behavior has been empowered.
November 24, 2025 at 12:52 PM
On top of that the agencies heavily targeted by DOGE for layoffs also tend to skew female. These layoffs disproportionately affected women, and therefore especially impacted black women, who formed a larger percentage of the federal workforce than typical private sector.

The seat of the federal government is in a city that until recently was a majority black population, and the the federal government reflected that. The federal government also offers consistent opportunities for advancement, again resistant to the double discrimination and a strong union culture.

Iraq would have gone better if they had handled it right.

They’re probably weeping in their offices with a pile of three-hole punched paper stacked in front of them, empty binders screaming.

The whole Trump foreign policy apparatus is three or four incompetent bumblers and a couple of rabid raccoons each doing 10 different jobs

It’s a bizarre shadow of how things are supposed to work, none of them has any idea. The actual negotiators are the tip of the policy iceberg, with a deep structure of expertise and reachback informing every move. DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN HAVE BRIEFING BOOKS?
