Some big life news:

This is my last week at the San Francisco Chronicle and my last week in journalism.

After spending nearly half my life as a reporter, I’m excited to pursue a new dream: becoming a veterinarian!

This is among the most thorough reporting I’ve seen on the health care impacts of the Republican budget bill, both on California and the nation.

It’s all devastating, but this gets into the details.
Legislation that would blow a hole in California’s health care spending, disproportionately tax Californians and neuter the states’ ability to regulate artificial intelligence passed the House early Thursday morning. www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...
Trump tax bill details: Measure passed by House will have outsize impact for Californians

Some of y’all noticed I’ve been uncharacteristically offline. This is why, and I remain on leave for a few weeks to handle a PTSD relapse. CJR was dogged in its pursuit of my story. Because of what I do and who I am, I felt that I had to answer their questions honestly.

Spoke with @jaketapper.bsky.social yesterday about the attacks I've encountered for wearing a mask. I'm grateful for the opportunity to talk about how it is indicative of a larger trend in attacks on journalists and newsrooms, and how that affects trust in our institutions.

Dumb journalists think being a tough interviewer requires writing down gotcha questions in advance.
Smart journalists know that the trick is just listening and sometimes going, ‘how so?’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene attacked me for wearing a mask. President Donald Trump singled me out.

But there’s a far more sinister goal at work here than humiliating an individual reporter or racking up likes.

From @shiramstein.bsky.social: Congressional Republicans say the benefits of local education control, their end goal with shuttering the U.S. Department of Education, outweighs the risk of states like California using federal money to fund programs with which they disagree.
Here's how Republicans' are justifying Trump's plan to dismantle the Education Department
Trump and several of the lawmakers said they want to see the funding go directly to local governments, rather than passing through statehouses.
