Is there a fediverse equivalent to Craigslist/Facebook marketplace? I want to start doing business with good quality people in ny community. Any other seemingly obvious suggestions are welcome.

Musk is not stupid as you describe: he knows & does not care. The only thing that matters is getting his way, whatever it happens to be at the moment. For instance, he often refers to Iain M. Banks, a socialism supporting unionist, as one of his favorite authors. Why? He identifies w/ the villains👍

"I will undoubtedly learn countless lessons from this disaster, many of them bitter and unwanted," writes Meghan Daum, who lost her home in the Los Angeles fires. "But the greatest so far has been the realization that help plays by the same rules as love."

It's about to get a lot more weird and political around here, I guess. Can't stop the signal.

A reminder that T. S. Eliot had the problems of today figured out 103 years ago in his essay and poetry collection "The Sacred Wood."

The first time I tried reading Seveneves, I got bogged down with the whole mining ship debacle and moved on to something offering quick gratification. Then, I jumped back in as that arc wrapped up, and proceeded to read the remaining story in one sitting. Way to go, Neal. Hell of a story.

Really looking forward to Andor season 2. Such high quality Star Wars, best since the original trilogy in my opinion.

Overexposure to Christmas music is a leading cause of depression, type 37 diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among retail workers. I strongly assert this without citing any source outside my own experience.

Huh.

They did another study on Kessler Syndrome (the cascade event where one orbital collision cascades into a permanent storm), and they put it at around 2050 now, unless the rate of orbits slows down. robertvanwey.substack.com/p/the-immine...

Hello world! Thanks for hosting this party. It's a banger, but let's be respectful of the neighbors and not burn the place down.
I love science/speculative fiction, and moun Iain M. Banks' passing.
I find the internet is suffering an overabundance of media involving cats, and it vexes me.
