Dictionaries, including Oxford Learner’s, are descriptive rather than prescriptive, meaning they chronicle usage rather than dictate meaning. That said, Merriam-Webster gives a far more comprehensive and fair (but still skewed) definition.

Yeah, I’ve only ever worked with blunt ones (and 90s portrayals were wild, with Raph’s sais bladed in some art). But apparently Okinawan kobudo often use them for stabbing techniques, and that’s likely closer to their original utility (besides the obvious stuff like trapping blades).
