As our program officer for Histories of the National Mall, he wanted to know all of the intellectual and technical decisions, affordances & challenges of designing mobile-first public history projects. A few years later, I had the privilege of becoming his colleague. He will be missed by many.

Perhaps even the cover of a birding notebook.
You could use some of the bird families —hummingbirds, parrots, warblers—to enjoy the rich colors and feather details. For ex, this cropped section would make a lovely card.

I especially love that there is a category for Digital public history projects - $1,000. These must be "non-commercial interpretative research project, designed primarily for non-academic audiences and presented online and freely available for the general public." Any topic within postal history.
