I write and edit for a living, love a good walk and talk, prefer waterfall and mountains to beaches, and can get annoyingly specific about food.
On Tuesday, the death toll from the Sumatra floods climbed to 744, and 551 people are recorded missing.

I spoke with volunteers/aid workers from the region for this story, and the ones from Aceh told me that this is like "a second tsunami" for them.

For my latest, I spoke with Jakartans + interviewed urban experts about Jakarta's new 'crown' as the world's most populous city.

I hope this gives people a picture of how things are in this megacity, where life can feel pretty challenging for many of its residents.

I think it's quite similar in Indonesia, and we're still at a point where only a handful is starting to realize this...
I think Americans are realizing that democracy is a participation sport, and the the government is ours if we want it to be. I feel like we got complacent and hoped some other third party would do the work for us. Seems like we have to learn that lesson every generation.

What a great day for finding out that a lot of things people thought were conspiracies are actually backed up by emails that are like hey pedo, let us pedo together in pedoland on the second day of the pedo month

my little lady is dealing with diarrhea. she's the most antisocial dog and doesn't cling to me at all normally, which is why I find it so sweet that she's been sticking with me today in search of comfort, and now finally asleep in my bed (an option she usually doesn't choose herself).

MY SHAYLA!

How far are you willing to go to provide for your family? The central question of "No Other Choice" is one that many people wrestle with daily, creating this basis of relatability, from where Dir. Park Chan-wook takes the audience on an equally stirring and foolish ride. Love it.

spent two weeks in the UK and I am so damn happy to be back in Indonesia. I guess my attachment to this place runs deeper than I thought 😬

Finally saw clips of Trump's speech at the UN and I felt second-hand embarrassment for the US. My country's president isn't that great either but y'all got a total nutcase over there.

It's been nothing short of exhausting to have to deal with your knee-jerk reactions to everything, the way you think the world is against you just because there is a disagreement. How did you survive with such a small heart?

I'm an instant wreck as soon as my furbaby shows new symptoms. Today, it's a severe case of peripheral edema that is causing his hind legs to basically leak water. He also seems to be in more discomfort than usual; strained coughs, inability to rest and two bouts of dyspnea earlier. My heart 😭

After too much overthinking and struggling with anxiety, I finally booked my tickets for the UK in October. I haven't gone on vacation in years and this is going to be my biggest personal trip yet. I almost can't believe how easy it was to get those tix.

I watched Weapons yesterday and I feel like I've wasted two hours of my life for a movie that did not live up to the hype AT ALL. What a disappointment.

It's that time of the year when I'm randomly reminded of Ryan Higa and his incredible team of creators, and how everyone of them have pretty much been offline for years now, after being such huge internet personalities. Which of course, makes me think of Jenna Marbles. I miss them both.

It's nearly 4am and I'm thinking about Anas al-Sharif. How we failed him, and so many others. They are people with dreams and so much love, who deserve to live in safety and peace like any of us. But Israel snatched that away so cruelly, so deliberately... while the rest of the world just watches.

I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said, but we must never forget that Israel is able to commit a genocide against Palestinians because so-called "world powers" ENABLED this massacre. When the tides turn - and it will - they will be held accountable.

We've been having a few good weeks, and my stress levels just went all the way up as soon as something didn't seem right with Milo. I think he has an upset stomach, probably because of new treats I'd thought would be fine (should've known better). Good God.

I'm so mad about the fact this person has such an impact on me, enough to ruin my day, by simply existing.
