Midwestern blustery spring storms mean our patio umbrella has been closed for a while and the rhodedendrons are magnificent. Noticed that Carolina Wrens, those tiny birds with giant songs, are nest-building such that I may never extend my umbrella again.

This is my sweet Ziggy, who we rescued 13 years ago. My little baby got a terrible diagnosis at the vet, which I knew in my heart. This is our last weekend with her as we've cuddled, pet, hugged, and given her every favorite treat. Helping them across the rainbow bridge is so hard

My sweet Ziggy cat. We adopted her 13 years ago after she was dumped. She got a terrible diagnosis at the vet today. I knew in my heart it was going to be bad. She got a pain and antibiotic shot so we can spend a last weekend giving her all the love, and pets, and treats she deserves.

Joy. Rescue pups Lilo and Stitch are loving the snowy morning in MO. Especially Stitch, the white-based one. She has enough Great Pyrenees in her mutt mix to adore snow. She rolls around in pure happiness. Lilo's coat is shorter, with more German Shepherd and Boxer, and wants more snow breaks.

Stitch very much believes she's a lap dog. Lilo looks on from the floor and doesn't try to climb me. Ziggy (kitty) is unconcerned.

Before adopting two littermate pups, who were rescued after being thrown away, morning coffee was quiet as my husband is a late sleeper and my elderly cat is slowing down. Mornings now involve giant dog faces awaiting potty trips and love. I've never had big dogs and we're all learning together.
