This change will increase gas costs for US drivers, who drive an average of ~14,000 miles per year.

Reducing the fuel economy requirement from 50 to 34.5 mpg will increase the annual gas costs of typical new car owners by $377 per year. That's 45% higher than under Biden rule. (Assuming $3/gallon.)

Today’s reporting reminds me of this recent picture from right outside one of our local high schools. We’re seeing a lot of youth use bikeshare to get to school these days—and in case you missed it, DC’s school attendance crisis is currently grave. Maybe we should be encouraging this!
