Australia is a beautiful country, but one of the greatest visuals you are unable to experience here, are mountains ranges towering over us like you can grasp here.
Where the Karakoram Highway connects Pakistan with China over the Khunjerab Pass at 4700m above sea level, one of the highest paved roads in the world.

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”

I'm envisioning something like this, which is "objectively" presenting lying and revisionism as an insidious opportunity -

Once upon a time the only tactic was to ignore it hoping people forgot.
Perhaps not today, but it is getting ever closer: plausible deniability due to Generative AI.
Hannity 2019: I have zero doubt that Russia meddled in the 2016 election…I’m certain they did. Devin Nunes was warning Obama in 2014

Hannity 2025: They all lied. I’m proud that this show got it right. The rest of the media went along with the lie.

"You couldn't be that stupid, I mean - they had evil intentions"

The grandest of irony, declared resolutely. And yet, innumerable people will still believe he, and his regime, are "just stupid".
If people only knew what their ambivalence produces by not KNOWING their enemy.
Trump: "Vladimir Putin made some very nice statements today. Look, he respects our country again ... President Xi respects our country. Kin Jong Un respects."

NANCY PELOSI: We must find the next generation of Democratic leadership. Young, charismatic and exciting candidates who can energize the party. People that voters love because they're not 80 years old and sold out to big capital.

A very strict messaging coming from Democrats, liberals, etc. in regards to oligarchy definably being the skewed distribution of wealth, yet ... this is demonstrably the case under their own governments.
Trump arguably is only accelerating the process.
It's coming off as disingenuous.

In other anime relatedness, I finished Chi Chikyuu about a week ago.

Madhouse might really be honing in on the mortality awareness "genre" (shoutouts to Frieren), wondering if the trend continues.
It was good, a dry and simple narrative perhaps, but a lot to digest still.

At best Corporate America capitulated, but far more likely is co-conspiracy to conduct a revolution (or coup) as quietly as possible. It's quite clear the most influential billionaires are *all* on side with this regime.

Similar to what was orchestrated in Australia with Whitlam & elsewhere.

A little late on new years/reflection posts but I was mostly still dwelling on it.
I'd say the year was a three-way split of awful (beginning), poor to neutral for the next, but generally trending up and better since toward year end.
I'd say my most "proud" thing is developing the exercise routine.

I've been watching Breaking Bad (nearly two decades late, I know) and just was finishing season 2 when the unexpected name drop occurred.
