For those just coming to BlueSky:

I'm a photographer, a storm chaser, a dad, a science junkie, and a National Park and adventure nut. Slowly working on actually making vids on photography and my adventures.

I'd love a follow, but it's cool if you don't.

You know, I enjoy karaoke. Am I a top notch singer? Nope, not at all. But I enjoy it and have a decent range both in styles and octaves.

Entered a contest which lasts 4 weeks (if I make the final) here is song 1:

And speaking of the #aurora...

This is one of my favorite images, and you can have a print of your own to display. Take a peek, and hopefully order one today.

A couple nights ago, I went out to try my hand at a Timelapse of the #aurora. It was only my second attempt, so clearly I am still learning. Shot with my D500 and a 24-70. Exposure was roughly 2s and the internal was around 4s.

Annoyed at the cars, but my fault for the location. Alas...here you go.

I'll never laugh at photogs for their position choices. Where you stand to make the image you see if entirely up to you. While I tend to look for the views in areas where photogs aren't, that sometimes doesn't work out for me.

Behind the couple photos you see were like 20 more. I'm all by myself.

Aside from photography, I also enjoy karaoke. I’m going to start recording my performances, mostly to gauge how I’m improving.

Speaking of improving, here’s me messing up “Amish Paradise” by Weird Al.

Wow, it's been a bit since I posted or even hopped on to check what's up.
Hopefully your fall season’s getting off to a good start. I’ve barely picked up my camera the past couple months unfortunately. I'll be doing my best to get back into the groove.
Until then, here's last fall. See the ALT!

Well, we have the first EF5 tornado since 2013.

Back in June in North Dakota, a tornado threw a train. Here is a link to the NWS page with the update.

I grabbed this image back in February at a protest in Madison. The sign remains even more true today. So far, every system that we had been hoping would stop some of the madness has either failed, or gone un-utilized.

Like, right out the front door. It's not the first thing you see when you come into the park. If you happen to come in on the eastern side, you'll pass the "Notch" and "Window" trails and overlooks. If you come in from the west, you'll actually see most of the park. Well, "most" is a relative term, but I shall not discuss that.

Nikon D810 and AF-S14-24 15sec f8 ISO 100 My journey into photography My journey into photography started nearly 30 years ago or more. I've always been fascinated by storms and severe weather, and I wanted to learn how to take pictures of lightning. So, my dad gave me an old full manual film SLR, and I started learning. The more I learned and experimented, the more I fell in love with the craft. The image above was just shot within the past couple years, but it's one of my favorite lightning photos because it merges my photography, storms, and national parks.

The Stormy Badlands

A powerful storm unleashes lightning over the rugged Badlands — a fleeting moment of raw energy captured in striking detail.

I do love me some blueberries. These are some of the "Blue Crop" variety. I can assure you, they are tasty indeed.

In South Haven, MI, we caught the Friends Good Will sailing past the lighthouse. The light was harsh, but the real magic was my daughter’s joy seeing her first tall ship. ⛵#SouthHaven #TallShip #LakeMichigan
Surprise on the Lake
Nikon D500 and AF-S 200-500 f5.6 shot at 1/250 f/16 at ISO 400 For the second lighthouse of the trip, we stopped in South Haven, MI. Upon pulling into the parking lot, this beauty came sailing through the channel and into the lake. This is the Friends Good Will, a sloop that sails from the Michigan Maritime Museum. It's a replica, but you could easily have fooled me. Then again, I know virtually nothing about ships, so it would be easy. My daughter on the other hand, loves learning about ships.

#Photographers of BlueSky, I have a question.

I'm getting ready to record a new podcast episode (and actually make an attempt at keeping it going). I'll be talking about G.A.S. and my work toward recovery.

What experiences have you had with it, and what helped you out of it?

For some perspective: The recent earthquake off the coast of Russia has been revised to M8.8, which would tie the 2010 Chile and 1906 Ecuador quakes as the 6th strongest earthquake ever recorded.

Not every great photo needs an exotic subject. This is just a robin taking a bath — nothing rare, just a moment of everyday wonder. I think there’s magic in the ordinary, if we take a second to really look. #birdphotography #naturelovers #everydaymagic
Beauty in the Everyday
American Robin - Nikon D500 w/200-500 f5.6 VR 1/125 f8 ISO 400 Sure, that's just an American Robin. You can find them pretty much anywhere, and lots of them. Clearly, this photo isn't about showing you some exotic animal. I just happened to see this robin taking a bath. I liked the shot, so I snapped it. I think that some of the most amazing images are of everyday occurrences. Obviously, I really enjoy seeing exotic places, or rare animals. Well crafted images of regular old things, that make us think of how amazing the world around us is, just hits differently.

If only Futurama was still running new episodes, I would hop on and yell:

Good News everyone!

Oh wait, I still can! My photography storefront is back online. Still adding things to it, but it's getting there. Take a peek.

Doing some work behind the scenes and will be updating previously recorded podcasts. Then... I will be starting to record new ones again.

Right now, you need to follow this link, I will be adding it back to the site once I get some new content recorded.
