Family translation (DE, FR, IT, NL) cooking travel cats books films and stuff. From Dungannon.
One episode to go, but I think Trespasses is possibly the best thing I’ve seen about Northern Ireland in the 1970s. Tragic, funny, word perfect. Just terrific.

Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.

On DHS’s unauthorized use of Norman Rockwell’s paintings across social media, an op-ed from our family today in @usatoday.com www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...
We're Norman Rockwell's family. Trump's DHS has shamefully misused his work. | Opinion
As Norman Rockwell's family, we know he'd be devastated to see the Department of Homeland Security's unauthorized misuse of his work.

Ref in Guardian to Paris club “Le chat qui pêche” as “the sinful cat”. Club sign suggests a more likely translation.

Other place (I still check in) is full of cheerleading for barbarism. Too grim.

Black Mirror ending problem. Both eps that I’ve seen brilliant until the last 5 mins.

Nosferatu plus trailers. Looks like we’re entering a golden age of horror. Wonder why that would be.

Hi Bluesky. In case you’re wondering, it’s mostly fights and twerking over at the other place. Glad to be back at the books table.

Wonderful to read this again, and a great launch. What a writer and what a properly amazing person he was. Hugely missed.

I guess I’m on here now. I’ll still look in at the other place from time to time (there’s still good stuff on books and music, and the odd joke) but dear God the other stuff…
