The whole "we have no choice but to put tariffs on Canada because they won't meet our non-existent demands on non-existent fentanyl exports" saga has basically been the diplomatic equivalent of Mr. Burns going "Mattingly I thought I told you to shave those sideburns"

![We're entering Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s walk year and he, like most top players do with their clubs, made it clear to the Blue Jays last fall that if a contract extension were to be reached, it'd have to get done before spring training got going because he did not want talks to be a distraction as he prepares for the upcoming season. The deadline was Monday night. When Guerrero showed up to the clubhouse yesterday morning he told the press that he and the Blue Jays did not reach a deal.
“They had their numbers, I had my numbers,” Guerrero said. When asked if the Blue Jays were close to the contract number Guerrero would have signed, he said: “No.” In light of that he will head into free agency at season’s end. And he could very well be on the trading block soon.
Team president Mark Shapiro's offered a comment on the negotiations, saying “[w]e were emotional. We did value the player deeply, and even went past our value because we cared so deeply about him and wanted to have him here.”
