Sales guy talking about #salestips
I always think it's weird hearing people tell me that want to sell something they are passionate about.
If you can't sell yourself on being passionate about selling whatever thing you are in the position to sell then your not going to sell your prospect on being passionate about anything.

If you talk to humans the same way you prompt AI you may actually improve your communication skills.

Most people speak in vague terms or terms that have multiple meanings and then we assume that people know what we are talking about.

In prospecting the term, SYSTEM is a big one.

It's interesting that one way that people are trying to mask the fact that they are using AI for writing emails, posts or documents is to actually go back in and add in human mistakes.

I saw that older civilizations used a different base of math than we do today. We use Base 10. There were civilizations that used base 12. meaning that a number would move 12 positions before it would go into the next delineation. 10-19 before becoming 20's would be more like 13-25 in our

Why?
Ask your prospects. Every time someone gives you a reason to ask WHY? ask.

They say, I can't really schedule anything until 3 weeks from now?
You ask, Why is that?
They probably will say, "I DON'T HAVE TIME I AM OVER BOOKED" (pain statement)

Why is a great word for questions that lead to pain

I will sign up for competitors demos / newsletters and see if there are any tactics they are doing that I am not.
I want to see how often they reach out and see if they are doing anything my team doesn't.

Occasionally I will sign up for products in different verticals just to see how they do it

The old Jedi sales rep's used to say,

Fear leads to excuses.
Excuses lead to delayed action.
Delayed action lead to reduced results.
Reduced results lead to suffering.

It is very healthy to learn different view points because it will not only challenge your beliefs but it will give you the full picture to make informed decisions.
I read a biography of 50 Cent and found out he was a completely different person that I thought.
I read the history of rail roads

Working in management in SAAS has taught me a lot about data.
Now whenever someone starts a sentence with, "I feel..." My instinct is to wonder where the data is.
Apply this to everything and you start to get better answers.

One of the more interesting parts of managing people is exposure to different micro cultures.

I don't get into music. But my teams usually do. I usually discover new music from them.

The human brain is wired to do the tasks that are easiest.
Sales is hard & full of difficult conversations.
That is why most people can't do it.
At the start of your sales career for most people, it means rewiring your brain.

A few years ago my team was testing a prospecting email that I hated. It had an awkward joke that no one in the team would ever say in person. I wanted to take it down but had a problem...

I post regularly on Linkedin. Some months I post every day.
Every so often I get asked, WHY?

1. Because it's a habit now
2. Because I have a team and my team follows me and if they passively pick up something from a post I scheduled 2 months ago that's only a benefit to my team because it's ..

You were probably told that there's no shortcuts to life Or success Or winning

But that's a lie.

Finding a mentor is the most effective shortcut you can take. Most of your peers won't seek guidance. If you do you'll reach your goals year faster.

It can be helpful to speak as though the prospect is already using the solution.
This creates the vision of the solution being used in their minds.
Example- Sell a CRM
“When your team logs information from a meeting, they will log it here.”

It might seem counterintuitive but, if you listen more than you talk you will have a better time.
No one wants to hear an endless #sales pitch. Everyone wants to tell you their problems
Ask questions, listen for what the problem is and lead the customer

Using what you gather in the discovery process you should be educating/teaching your prospects.

Uncover what they are doing
Look for gaps that you can fill
Challenge/Change perception

WHY?
Almost no one knows they could be doing something better until they are told/shown that it's possible.

No matter what I've sold in B2B these questions always break down barriers and give me useful insight.

How did you get into X role?
What are you responsible for? or Whats the scope of your oversight?

If people want to be offended, they'll be offended.
If people don't want to be offended, they won't me.
If you act with no I'll intent you have nothing to worry about.

The listener has more control over how they take it than how you say it.

It's okay to interrupt people's day.
If I let you interrupt my day, it's because I obviously have enough available time to let you take some.
If I cold call someone and they answer the phone my assumption is that they had time to talk.Otherwise they wouldn't have answered.

I had a prospect tell me he would read the info I was sending and then get back to me. I asked when he would read it. He said he would find time. So I told him 99% of the time no one reads anything I send over after this call.........

Every time I change roles/companies on linkedin I get a dozen offers to move my retirement account. Financial advisors are probably the best example of using SalesNavigator for outreach that I've seen
It's almost disappointing that I don't get hit up by more crm/prospecting tool

If your in Sales, It's January.
You run a month ahead. Everything you do this month pays you next month.
Some of your activities won't pay you until April.
Keep focused on the future. Your in January.

It's funny talking to sales orgs and having them tell you that they don't have a target market because "everyone could use our product". The better sales organizations I've been a part of made the decision early on to focus on specific verticals.
