A beagle on a beach. The tide is out, the sun is shining, and the sky is a beautiful blue. Where would you rather be? #ShareTheShore is a hashtag adopted by local residents of Greenisland near Carrickfergus to campaign for access to our (i.e. owned by the Council) beach, that is currently closed off and inaccessible to residents who live a matter of metres away. We have to trespass or climb high forbidding fences just to access what is on our doorstep. We want residents and visitors to be able to experience the beauty of our shoreline, to be able to enjoy and care for our environment and neighbourhood. The benefits to physical and mental health, as well as a sense of community, are self-evident. Please visit the consultation, fill out the form, and say YES! Thank you! The idea is to decouple the journals from the review step. They’ll still exist, but they’ll need to add other value. They’ll highlight, curate, add new perspectives. If they do a good job they can still be prestigious (like Scientific American or Wired) (1.2) 👇

This is fantastic work from Derry & Strabane Council and local businesses. The availability, accessibility and hygiene of toilet facilities are key indicators of public wellbeing and the standard of a society, and a critical enabler of the economy.

Farage will destroy the UK - Scotland and Northern Ireland will leave. Whether or not he can "turn his words into reality", those are neither words nor a reality that are good for the UK or its constituent countries, so he can get in the sea.

WhyTF should we take Farage seriously? Just because he wants power? Even more reason for ruthless scrutiny.
His track record is racist and ruinous. Any serious journalist would say so.

The man who can hardly start a sentence without adding a gag, or a grin, or a chortle, gave a speech about his approach to the economy in which he barely produced any. Nigel is trying to get serious. What that tells me is that Mr Farage really does want power: He senses it is within his grasp. He smells it and, most importantly of all, he wants it. Badly. The leader of Reform UK declared that "above all we will be responsible and realistic". In so doing he seemed to admit that the policies he ran on at the last election were something of a joke. No one remotely serious believed they remotely serious because, as the Institute for Fiscal Studies said, the sums in Reform UK's manifesto did "not add up". Back then - scarcely more than a year ago - Farage said you could have pretty much everything you wanted from a government whilst actually paying less for it - much less. Taxes would be cut, and cut big time. It was going to be happy hour all day long. Every day. All year: Yet now what he wants us to hear is very different. Now the man who really does want to be our next prime minister is saying, in eftect: I'm awfully sorry, but we can't cut your taxes until we get our nationa! debt back under control. Trust me, he's saying, I can be the straight man as well as the funny guy. . . . . Now he does have to show us all that he knows how to turn his words into reality, just as his lieutenants who are running councils up and down the land are discovering. We know Farage really does want to be our next prime minister. It is time we all took that prospect seriously, and stopped treating him as a come turn or a pantomime villain in the national soap opera. Serious times deserve serious answers. Let's see if Farage can provide them.
