i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Listened to this @thisdaypod.com episode about liberty trees on my walk home today. It might serve well in #PSC111 next fall, and also if I ever teach that protest/policy course again 🤔🚶‍♀️🌳

Picked this article up more for its topical (i.e., interest group coalitions) than its regional focus, but it's not the first piece I've read recently that has me thinking Americanists should be reading more work by Central/Eastern Europeanists #polisky #poliscisky

Having grown up in such a multilingual setting, I can't even wrap my head around this perspective 🙄
This is exactly the same argument — and, in parts, even the same language — that segregationists advanced to argue that white people had a “right” not to live next to people who were different from them.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

Today is the 7th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Synagogue massacre, where 11 Jews were killed for their congregation's support of immigrant rights.

I look at what Jews from the synagogue are doing to honor their dead & stand up for immigrants' rights.

I was at my old high school today, for the first time in over twenty years, to talk to the teachers about how their curriculum can better support students. AI came up, and so many teachers were saying "Well it's a tool, they have to know how to use it, it's the future so we have to accept it!"
