Extremely edifying and interesting (long) thread on Mamdani's transition team and the wide-ranging, much needed change they will help him bring to NYC, which may inspire other cities as well.

on Veterans Day I often think of my two Aunts Mary Greer and Sue Greer Schiller who served as nurses during WWII. Mary was an Army nurse (Captain) and Sue was a Navy Nurse. I only have pictures of Mary in uniform from the 1940's. Both aunts spent some time in northern Africa during the war.

So with 8 Dems help the Senate will pass a compromise CR; does anyone actually believe that Speaker Johnson will recall the House to vote on it? There's indications he has no plans to reconvene until after Dec. 2. So giving up that leverage will result zip, nada.

The sudden appearance of ads for Tiktok is weird. Tiktok is wildly popular, used by millions all over the world for years, but now that it's been purchased by new owners, and I have to wonder if the sudden need to tout Tiktok in ads is because there are plans that would make it less popular.

I started listening to this and I suddenly found myself sobbing out loud, this is the most awful thing I've ever heard any person in office say publicly in my lifetime, much less any president: "we're just going to kill people." This is unbearable.

my personal response to T's AI video of himself as a king in a fighter jet: why in the world would he think this video portrays him positively, why would anyone like a "leader" that dumps "shit" on the ordinary people of his country; to me it seems much more like a video his critics would make.

In Gate City, VA yesterday at the No Kings rally the participants spent as much time talking to each other as waving their signs at passers by, and that was important, to create new connections, to build community among those fighting against authoritarianism in a region that mostly votes "red."
