I agree. The narrative explanation for declining trust has become ‘political polarisation’ rather than ‘lying is now the norm’ which massively limits opportunities for adaptation and resilience to manipulation.

I find the big ones especially confusing.
Like, the event above involved hundreds of clergy rallying with senators on the Capitol steps. There were speeches. Bishop Budde was there.
Big event. Easy access to lawmakers for interviews. Visuals.
And there were like 2, maybe 3 other reporters.

I tend to ask folks what pronouns or terms I should use for them. Linguistically, it puts the onus on me and my behavior, which is really what I'm asking -- how do I respect you when speaking to or about you -- rather than a demand that they share a sometimes very personal truth about themselves.
