Middle-aged trans woman surviving the apocalypse with baking, flowers/trees, silly times with my kid, and some righteous indignation.
Just a reminder that Ursula K. LeGuin described the Potter books as “stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.” Read and watch something better, and, bonus, don’t
support trans persecution.

It just baffles me that people come on social media every day to spew hate about people b/c of who those people are. If you spend all day being racist, misogynist, trans-hating, wouldn’t you at some point question your life choices? I talk about trans issues b/c I’m trans. The idea that…1/2

This may be very old news, but today was the first time I read the descriptor Feminism Appropriating Radical Transphobes.

I cannot emphasize enough that compromisers/institutionalists who take great pains to separate themselves from activists will absolutely jump on board and take credit when the activists triumph, then start the cycle again.

I watched the entirety, and it was fascinating. What really strikes me is that Trump’s corruption and self-dealing aren’t extraordinary. What makes him uniquely destructive is his vast ability to corrupt others. He seems to continually generate more greedy people willing to be amoral for him.
Watching this, it’s clear that the press has been complicit in creating and boosting Trump since the 1980s. Burying or ignoring things that could diminish their Big Story or Access is not new.

Every time I see Piers Morgan display his florid arrogance and judgment of trans people, I think about him snickering before Susan Boyle started singing. You’d think he would have learned a thimbleful of humility from that moment.

I greatly appreciate media that has a distinctive font/typeface and layout, so that when someone shares an article from The Atlantic or the New York Times, I know with a 1 second glance that it’s not worth my time.

🧵 Not thrilled about touching a 3rd rail, but Megyn Kelly’s musings on pedophilia put me over the edge. So: IMO, TERFism is one of several virulent expressions of toxic femininity. TF is a load-bearing pillar for the patriarchy, and the left has utterly failed to grapple with it. 1/14

I’ve been sitting on a thread for about a week that I don’t seem to be able to let go of, but also don’t really want the shit that it could kick up. I delete it, then re-write it, repeat, then copy it out b/c I know I’m going to rewrite it. What to do?

Does “Big Tent” include folks making death threats towards Congresspeople, or just towards regular trans people? Trying to figure out where the reactionary centrist line is.

I have no earthly idea what most of the non-journalist trans women I follow on here are talking about most of the time, but I nonetheless enjoy reading their posts in a "the energy of these youths makes me happy" kinda way.

Making the case for something like “Cis-Assigned Gender” for the sex on our original birth certificates. "Gender Assigned by Cis Activists” is a bit too wordy.

Should we trash party primaries and just have what we had in Louisiana when I growing up? Derisively (I think) called by outsiders a “jungle primary.” Everyone runs in one primary; if one gets >50%, they win. If no one gets >50%, there’s a runoff between the top two, regardless of party. 1/2

I've never understood the administration's hesitancy to release a version of the Epstein files. Given how immoral they are, why would we expect them to release anything incriminating of a Republican? Wouldn't they straight-up doctor files? What compels them to release anything legitimate?

Centrist Dems get a big tent in their pants when they cozy up to conservatives/MAGA.

I have a pretty cynical view of the power structures and people in power in this country, but I really thought the idea of a cabal of rich white dudes and network of 1%ers that were totally fine with pedophilia was tinfoil hat stuff. I guess I still didn't have a low enough opinion.

Centrist pundits who pretend Harris lost because her campaign catered too much to the Left (be it on immigration, or identity issues, or basically anything else) are either amnesiac or full of shit. Either way, they have zero credibility talking about how Democrats should run their campaigns.
Pundits: Why didn't Kamala Harris run to the center on immigration?

Centrists are in love with the story that left abstention caused Democratic candidates to lose. They trot it out so constantly as a pre-emptive defense against criticism of shit candidates that the chattering classes want to foist on us. It's a way of never improving and just scapegoating in advance

I just watched a clip of tv interviewers talking about Mamdani and Polanski's "authenticity," and how refreshing that is. I agree that people are sick of inauthentic pandering/consultant-speak. But you have to be authentic AND be decent, caring, humanist, and have vision. Authentic Nazis aren't it.

A festering problem w/ reactionary centrists and tabloids like the NYT, the Atlantic, et al that propagandize their views is a fundamental belief that America is Mostly Conservative (MC), that the MC represent a 'truer' America, and the role of the liberal is to make compromise/concession w/same. 1/

The way we’ve created our built environment and the transportation choices we have made available to the public is a policy choice, not the way it had (or has) to be.
This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

Just a reminder that before all these Epstein emails were released, we were talking about spine-free Democrats caving on the shutdown. They still caved on the shutdown.

🧵 I engaged with ChatGPT once out of curiosity. I asked it about philosophical underpinnings in western philosophy for identity and to what extent those writings provided support for the concept of trans identity. It's responses were validating, encouraging, and referenced several philosophers 1/
