Riding a bike makes me happy! Probably because it keeps me off social media. And cross country skiing is pretty cool too! Cycling advocate in YYC. My friends call me Jim. #yycbike
Glad for the heads up. That section was seriously messed up on my way home!

Correction - should read eastbound, but it still shouldn’t be there!

So that's what it look like in daylight!

Don’t be fooled by the foreground. I was parked on the edge of the cleared pathway

17th would have been the same challenging single track but longer and without the tranquility 😂. Early season single track is so hard because the track is the high part and so easy to lose your front wheel and be on the ground in a flash! Would be nice if they roller packed that trail for the winter

The main reason for going that way was because I had my doubts the 17ave MUP from Sarcee to Westbrook was cleared - notoriously late with clearing it. I will go home up the steep pathway east of Shag and check it out on the way home.

I just added a legend 😂
November 25, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Legend:
✅ - mostly clear but expect ice and hardpack in spots
💩- self explanatory
😑- had to ride in cleared tire tracks
🌶️- spicy (but I knew it would be)
☑️ - path cleared for one bike width, but better than nothing

I enjoyed the snow blockade, westbound under Centre Street! 311 submitted!

Or more!

Also, we found out the hard way last winter, that Ice Spikers are great on hardpack and ice but going downhill in deep snow, even with e-assist, is an undertaking not for the faint of heart!

I’m sure I would have made it to work… just in time to leave at the end of the day! 😂

Winter is inevitable, might as well embrace it!

Left the bike home today - snow would have added too much time to an already long commute. Roads were as bad as expected but I did not mind doing 50km/h on Stony, because I was warm and dry! Non bike commuters may not have the same perspective 😂

After 14 months and over 8,000 km logged, I wholeheartedly agree! It’s certainly made my 65km round trip commute manageable along with the occasional camping trip.

Your comment reminded me of this Far Side 😂
