Trying to get more Yiddish listening practice, and all I can say is that if all fluent Yiddish speakers spoke at 75% speed, it would be much easier. It reminds me of when as a kid I was trying to get from 11 to 13 words per minute with Morse code to get a General license, and it was a big hurdle.

"where the emperor goes on foot" - euphemism for toilet. I read this through first in a Yiddish script version w/o looking at the footnotes, and was a bit befuddled by that.

I'm reading a bio of Yip Harburg, and it says that The Wizard of Oz did not get great reviews when first released, aside from a rave in the New York Times. I was curious if it was reviewed in the Yiddish press, and I found this very favorable review in the Morgn Freiheit, 8/21/39.
