Interested in why public anti-immigrant sentiment is so geographically concentrated? Here's some work with @denis-cohen.bsky.social testing a new theory on how regional labour market risks and inter-regional migration shape long-term spatial polarisation. Just out in @bjpols.bsky.social 👇
Just published in @bjpols.bsky.social: @sergipardos.bsky.social and I show that inter-regional moves in pursuit of employment security reduce individual worries about immigration—a mobility pattern that, in the aggregate, reinforces spatial polarization in anti-immigration sentiment. cup.org/3XiB6yD

Excited to see our paper on the immigrant–native pay gap featured in @nature.com’s new policy brief pilot, please take a look!
Pay gap between nationals and migrants mainly due to unequal access to high-paying jobs
Recognizing foreign qualifications and providing language training could improve immigrants’ access to better-paying positions.

I'm looking for someone with strong quantitative text-analysis skills (e.g. #NLP, #LLM, etc.) to study the role of political actors in cleavage formation.

How have the earnings of migrant employees changed over time?

HMRC stats from our updated piece with @jdportes.bsky.social indicate that non-EU nationals who joined the workforce since Brexit have seen faster earnings growth than earlier cohorts.

From today, 111 jobs will no longer qualify for Skilled Worker visas, but a sizable number will still be able to recruit migrants.

In fact, of the 26,900 people who were granted a Skilled Worker visa between October and March, 76% were for jobs that will remain eligible.

Very happy that our paper (w/ @dziblatt.bsky.social & E Dinas) has been accepted @bjpols.bsky.social .

We've seen the center right increasingly adopt far-right rhetoric.

Our experiment in 🇩🇪 finds that this erodes anti-prejudice norms *more* than when the far-right employs similar rhetoric.
