But gotta keep trying, because its only truly hopeless when all the good people give up.

A truly horrible minefield to navigate. And yet simultaneously trying to do science communication and sharing the passion for understanding our universe, trying to share the altruistic vision that pushes me forward, when the foundations feel so corrupted. Fucking sucks and hard to see a good way out

operated is inextricably tied up with the moral atrocities of the military industrial complex. When universities are starved of public funding and turn to weapons manufacturers. When every singlr company doing this research proudly wears its "darpa funded" badge...

Not exactly this line of reason, but I've been grappling a lot with similar thoughts recently about how much of a struggle this is even within the sciences. How impossible it is to hold consistent ethics even internally when so much of how almost all research (in quantum at least) is funded and...

I also think another read on pluribus is that it takes the "we" framing device, and uses that to explore what the personal impacts and ramifications are of having such violently enforced boundaries. So kind of exploring the dissolution of distance, but through an inverse/outsiders perspective.

Agree entirely with this too, something to do with encroaching fascism pushing people to draw closer borders around themselves and police them as a form of comfort in control.

That's so wild??? Like it seems so obvious the show is interested in interrogating a particularly american strain of toxic individualism and it couldnt be more obvious at this point in the show that "we" aren't an enemy or antagonist???

I would have agreed with this if I hadn't found out recently that's its incredibly common for a lot of people to just constantly be sharing their location with like, partner, friends, parents, family, whoever... Deeply upsetting. Maybe just me but P2P surveillance state is gross.

Idk, I guess there's not a perfect answer, and there's always teething issues, but unavoidable communication to the entire userbase would make a big difference in a herd immunity effect kind of way, where there's enough people who know the correct thing to let others know when it pops up in the wild

that every third party would redirect to a single domain associated with the bsky managed pds's, because that feels like common sense, but maybe it doesn't because there's enough stuff that doesn't work the way you expect to break that certainty.
November 18, 2025 at 2:49 AM
on a trusted page and make a note of the domain, or dig through documentation that may not be complete, I'd have no idea how to know to trust it. Just a forced interaction screen telling people what the bsky auth domain is would make a big difference, but then I don't even know for sure
November 18, 2025 at 2:49 AM
Yeah, I can attest to this, I'm pretty technically competent, a lot of my work is with python, comfortable enough to build some network graph analysis tools with the atproto stuff, but not any web stuff. And other than hoping that the first time I encounter the oauth screen is directly from a link

It sucks so bad, its the *only* natural response to so many of the evils in our world, and yet in almost every way it's antithetical to any structures we need to build to make a better world possible. Trying to walk the line of being motivated by it without having it determine action is so so hard.
November 16, 2025 at 12:09 PM
Fuck that shit, medical uses, when we actually underatand them beyond correlation, are great and all, but pushing it on anyone who doesn't aesthitcally conform in just the right ways is fascist body politics in molecular form.
November 15, 2025 at 2:52 AM
It makes me so mad. Science communication is hard enough at the best of times without so many people that should know better happily reporting the dumbest lines for clicks.

I adore @skullectomy.bsky.social's deathguard. Maybe doesn't translate super cleanly to AoS but seeing this was the first time I really loved any nurgle stuff.

I started reading it last night and am enjoying it a lot, but yeah, I was thinking about the very real and probably very uncomfortable parallels you're dealing with atm and thinking of you.

Had missed that you had started posting bits of this and Ward 13 because of timezones but am looking forward to reading it when I have a bit of time sometime the next day or two 🙂
November 5, 2025 at 12:40 PM
Yeah, I was definitely reaching for something more akin to "effective at ingratiating themselves into an ecosystem where they can enrich themselves by bringing forward a global fascism" but far more unwieldy lol

At least historically. Unwilling to bet anything on us staying as sheltered as we have been from this up till now 🙃
