Have you ever wondered whether pyroptotic corpses have functions beyond the grave? We made the surprising discovery that pyroptotic corpses are flagged by #filopodia to alert #DendriticCells they need autopsy. A short Bluetorial (1/13)👇with movies!

Pyroptotic cell corpses are crowned with F-actin-rich filopodia that engage CLEC9A signaling in incoming dendritic cells
Nature Immunology - Pyroptotic cell death results in inflammation. Here the authors find that F-actin-rich structures formed during macrophage pyroptosis persist after cell death to activate...

Quite a quick turnaround for this small story from us: Turns out that messing up septins activates NLRP3.
www.cell.com/cell-chemica...
The septin modifier, forchlorfenuron, activates NLRP3 via a potassium-independent mitochondrial axis
NLRP3 is widely regarded as a sensor for ionic flux because most NLRP3 activators do so via potassium efflux. Holley, Emming et al. report that the septin modifier FCF induces septin-2 rearrangement a...

That story took a looong time spanning multiple Honours and PhD projects, but finally here we are (and it even made the cover!:

NLRP12 interacts with NLRP3 to block the activation of the human NLRP3 inflammasome

Do all the reviews you want, but the bottom line has been obvious for 10+ years.

Biology is never simple ! I’m happy to share our new publication on the role of HDAC6 on inflammasome. We used several methods (KO mouse, inhibitors, DARPIN…) to show that HDAC6 is NOT always driving the inflammasome and is context-dependent. DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbc.2024.105638

Love this one, I feel some basic researchers would also be quite high up on the list.

There is so much coming out on NLRP1 and I still have a lot of questionmarks on how this all is regulated 😵‍💫

Don't think bluesky made it down under yet, but better get started:

I am a postdoc in Kates Inflammasomelab @IMB @University of Queensland and interested in all inflammasomey things especially NLRP3 and novel inhibitors
