During WWII, w/ racism at home & at war, the Tuskegee Airmen escorted bombers to keep them safe & also destroyed enemy targets. Despite racism, they fought because they believed “a better life was worth fighting for”, according to Captain Luther Smith. Their success helped desegregate the military.
