This CutA project is close to my heart as it was my first 3rd party funded project.
It was/still a highly risky project but ended quite well with a huge team effort from hard core chemistry to microbiology & biophysics

With great help of Hughes & Petras groups, pteridines were identified as natural ligands of CutA protein. Lumazine dehydroxyxanthopterin B2, a new pteridine, was found to bind CutA.
Pteridines are involved in Redox biology, so we found that cutA mutants of #cyanobacteria & E.coli have redox problems
