Divest yourselves, good people, of the notion The Atlantic is good for anything but mulch.
The Atlantic suggesting, without evidence, that Canada's Global TV broadcasting the '60 Minutes' segment on CECOT that CBS distributed to it may have been an act of "treachery."

This seems a good litmus test for LLMs
you will not be able to replace your devices - be they of the desktop, laptop or handheld variety - but the devices you do happen to have at the moment have the full range of chatbot functionality

is it worth it?
*thinks about how RAM price spikes means no one will be able to afford a new computer*
is this good

I'm an advocate that dinosaurs were likely plump and fluffy (like birds) rather that smooth, sleek, and muscley (like lizards). Here's my guess of what Tyrannosaurus rex might look like, little arms totally obscured by floof.

WB: What do you have planned for Batman 2?

Tim Burton: We open on a newborn baby boy

WB: Aww

TB: No. The baby is ugly. He kills and eats a house cat while it's still alive. His parents try to kill him in his crib, but to Gotham's woe, they fail

WB: ...

TB: Also it's a Christmas movie

Clinicians who actually saw the horrors of COVID (and didn’t get infected, because masks fucking work 🤷🏻‍♂️) are pretty pissed at this. Especially the @newyorker.com - I expect better 🤦🏻‍♂️
The thesis of the book is that early COVID lockdowns weren't worth it and mid-COVID mitigation measures like masks, contact tracing and business closures don't work.

This is laughably false and the authors have endorsed the people now running Trump's HHS.

Everyone involved in the publication and promotion of this book should be embarrassed. It's not a "harsh truth" that COVID mitigation was a mistake, it's ghoulish and false.

Saying it again, anthropomorphized "chatbot" user interfaces to LLMs should be illegal.

There's zero reason these interfaces have to be like this—other than companies making people addicted to them.

This means the VA won't cover abortions EVEN in the case of rape, incest, or serious threat to the health of the patient.

The DOJ memo was authored by Josh Craddock, one of the chief legal advocates for fetal personhood, i.e. imposing a nationwide abortion ban through the courts.
🚨🚨 SCOOP @ms.now : The Department of Veteran Affairs has quietly implemented its abortion ban following a DOJ memo issued last week.

This will affect 9 million veterans and their dependents, and has been a long time coming: It was outlined in Project 2025.

Setting aside the many MANY MANY MANY ethical issues around digitally puppetting the dead and constructing unauthorized facsimiles and theatre in court... An AI avatar cannot be held liable for perjury and cannot be relied upon to represent an uncompromised source. I feel like I'm losing my mind.
This year marked the first time the AI avatar of a victim—in this case, a dead man—has ever addressed a court, and it raises many questions about the use of this type of technology in future court proceedings.
