While some of us celebrate longer, healthier lives, it's not across the board.

Access to housing, healthcare, and employment become significantly less as people get older.

This is especially so if you're female, have a disability, are Black or Brown, or belong to the LGBTQ+ community.

Several states have eliminated family-based occupancy limits to expand shared housing options. Iowa, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and New Hampshire now prohibit cities or HOAs from restricting how many unrelated people can live together, making housing arrangements easier to establish

In searching for multifamily properties in several states, I found the biggest barrier to creating coliving spaces were the local zoning laws that restrict the number of "unrelated" people living together. Several states have outlawed these restrictions but more states need to!!!

It was an honor to be present for the dedication of Mosaic Apartments. This project is the 1st LGBTQ+ friendly affordable senior housing community in Western PA. That is something to celebrate & it is also a reminder of how much work remains to ensure that older LGBTQ+ adults can age with dignity.
