Alex had hidden who he was all his life. He was never able to be open about himself or his sexuality. He was hiding in plain sight, living like a ghost. Even after fleeing Malawi and reaching the UK, he was not safe to be truly himself. It was only when he got to Micro Rainbow safe housing and met Gabe – who was open and unapologetic about himself and his sexuality – that he began to become whole. It’s still illegal to be #LGBTQI in more than 60 countries – including Malawi, where Alex is from. And LGBTQI people fleeing persecution are still not safe when they reach the UK. Micro Rainbow provides safe, inclusive housing for LGBTQI people seeking protection in the UK.
