This tells me two things:
1. People don't recognize their own bias in trying to paint the other side as the violent side
2. Despite how much praise his actions got, very few want to be associated with him

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.
