Good Intentions
@seeker47.bsky.social
Follower of Christ, husband, father... I've served on the school board and the deacon board and believe we're only going to fix things by making genuine, local connections with people who disagree with us.
It's NYC. People have places to be. Their loss.

I miss my commutes into Philly back in the day. There were always buskers in Suburban Station playing their hearts out. I'm sure they were scraping to make rent, but the really good ones were also on a mission to share a little joy.

I suppose it's actually a threat to the freedom of the press, not speech. Same amendment; same fundamental disrespect for the Constitution.

"Liberal commie heathen!"... at least that's what the brass quintet said on their way out the door during the great worship schism of '09.

It feels like MTG just brought a drum kit and electric guitar into the sanctuary!

Eventually, ICE will be abolished. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt, focusing on its core mission. This new institution should be run by ethical, compassionate leaders who are held accountable for their actions.

It sounds like the SBC should go through the same process.

Some of them are pretty good, but thankfully I don't think I've encountered a bot that can pass the Teruing test... yet.

There'll be plenty of jobs soon. Those domestic iPhones aren't going to assemble themselves, you know.

Yeah. Moses had more clarity with the burning bush. We don't get that. I guess I'd argue that a virtuous life based on Biblical principles is easier to build community around; there is a common point of reference in the Word.

Ideally, the real world actions are the same, so I see your point.

It matters for the social contract. There's power in doing good in this world. It's long term and sustaining and focused on the common good. Those who steal power and use it selfishly always warp society and often fall hard. Sadly, they're indifferent to the suffering they cause in the meantime.

Except for the atheist. If he's right about the afterlife, he's the only one who won't be able to turn to the rest to say, "I told you so".

If I'm marked as wise or a good person, and someone asks me why I am the way I am, I hope that I adequately explain Christ's grace in my life and my desire to follow His example.

A good Muslim or Buddhist probably has a similar message based on their faith. I suppose we'll all find out later.

For this world? Not a bit of difference.

No argument there. Hardly any Muslims are terrorists or radical in any way, for example.

It’s just good to remember that not everyone who wears a cross is a hypocrite. I think that most people who claim the label of Christian and do good are simply living according to their belief.

There’s also a pretty good chance that he’s allowing our country to tear itself apart. It’s Jeremiah 18, but live-streamed. For the last 100+ years we’ve been too proud; we’ve forgotten Him in our arrogance. I’m afraid that this is happening because we need to be brought low before renewal.

I think that God is very much involved in our lives every day; I know lots of people who lead loving, sacrificial lives, in Christ’s name. He’s for sure involved in that quiet part.

That’s an interesting take, but it make God sound like one of the Greek or Roman gods. They’d spend most of their time hanging out on Olympus and only occasionally descending to screw around with mortals when they got bored.

So, that’s where I am today. I see the logic and simplicity of stoicism, but I think that, for me, it would be hard to be hands off with the people that I love who have fallen under the spell of the red hat. I may never see their hearts change, but they deserve to be reminded of the truth.

The way I’m looking at it is that there have always been false teachers. Paul spends a bunch of time talking about it in his letters. His response was to call it out and continue to preach/live the truth of the Word. He didn’t write off those who were duped by the lies; he prayed for them.

Equal treatment for Dot? She's not actually their sister; just a DEI hire. As soon as the Ellisons get their hands on WB, she'll be deported.
