It’s a cold and sunny weekend here in Prague so I went for a long walk. Did you know you could surf on the Danube? No, neither did I. And the air temperature is about -8 so I wouldn’t like to guess at the water temperature!

Got to the airport for my early flight to Prague. I really don’t mind T3 - it’s generally a lot quieter than T5 at the best of times. At 5am? It’s dead 😂

Heard the one about the Albanian and the British chicken nuggets?

Jesus, I wish this really was the start of a bad joke but no.

Our oh so wonderful press is really writing up headlines about this.

I do find it absolutely mind blowing that a govt that is made up of the Labour Party would decide that the Trump approach to unleashing state cruelty on vulnerable people is a great idea. And then they really lean into it and turn it into a video nasty. This is Roman Empire stuff, human suffering

This is all a symptom of having a leader who is bad at politics and is a bad politician. He doesn’t know what he wants to offer to the public and he doesn’t know how to offer it.

This is unfortunately why we have a nationalist, populist party polling well.
1. Here are just a few of the ways in which Starmer’s Labour Party seems determined to alienate its voters and lose the next election. As they pile up, you have to keep pinching yourself and asking, “what the hell is it playing at?” 🧵

The SO makes bread every week. This weeks had poppy seeds and sesame seeds in it. Very good.

Two cocktails. A classic bone dry martini (cloudy because the gin came out of the freezer and the ice was getting a bit wet) and a Manhattan Island.

The comments on this are deeply depressing. FAFO is really great if you are a smug white middleclass person. What it reveals you to be is a heartless cunt with zero empathy, so that most dangerous of all things; a liberal.
So sad. Venezuelans who supported Trump are shocked and dismayed to discover that when he vowed mass deportations, he was talking about them.

Time to have a wander around art for a couple of hours (and admire the very tall, very blond, very well put together young man who is also here to look at the art)

Do have a read of this thread. I don’t agree with the idea that this is linked to enabling genocide in the US but aside from that I don’t disagree with the risks highlighted. My personal fear is that this enables the Executive to reintroduce state murder as entertainment.
(Disclaimer — Not a lawyer, but do applied legal work.)

I believe this memo is the first step in legalizing genocide here in the United States. It:

1. Lifts the current death penalty moratorium. (Allows federal penalties to go forward again.) /thread

Don’t look up people who have been abused and are victims. This isn’t difficult.
72% of first-time violent offenders in New Jersey’s only women’s prison were abused by their victims. Dawn Jackson was one of them. “Women in my shoes, there are a lot of us,” she told Bolts. “We all share the same story, just different characters.”

For Abuse Survivors, a New Path to Release from New Jersey Prisons
Governor Phil Murphy commuted the sentences of three women convicted for killing abusers. Now advocates also want a legislative fix, and point to reforms in New York and Oklahoma.

Unfortunately this is reliant on Streeting being a decent human being and he’s a politician and by default not.

Of course Trump wants to build a beachside holiday complex in Gaza. This is just the continuation of the genocidal actions that Biden (and Harris) supported. The US doesn’t care about Gaza or the Palestinian people. What it cares about is the development potential for this, Greater Israel and

Tonight’s food came out extremely well - pizza! Three cheeses (vegan cheese is improving, honest!), chilies, peppers, artichokes, capers and olives.

Ah liberals. Always ready to wrap the white nationalists in a warm and loving embrace.

The SO has been busy sowing seeds today. These are a mix of broad beans, mizuna, broccolini, lettuce, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines and broad beans.

Streeting is one of the people in politics I absolutely hate. There is nothing redeeming about this slimy, self-important traitor. Why traitor? He worked for Stonewall. He knows the violence that is directed towards trans people of all ages and very specifically young trans people.

This is an astonishing take from a person that was absolutely complicit in the rise of the techno fascists. Swisher built an entire goddam career out of being a ‘friend of Mark’ and the rest of them.
It is astonishing that mainstream media is covering this like it is a shruggie vibe 🤷‍♂️

So what are you *actually* going to do to resist the seizure of this ‘critical agency’? Just talk? Go grab some of those guns from your home armouries and defend the building and the people inside from being pillaged? We know the answer. You’ll be walked all over and do nothing.
US Rep @beyer.house.gov addresses USAID HQ protest:

"Trump directly his corrupt billionaire friend Elon Musk to ransack a critical agency... What Trump & Musk have done is not only wrong, it's illegal. USAID was established by an act of Congress and it can only be disbanded by an act of Congress."
February 3, 2025 at 6:22 PM
Musk grabbing hold (physically) of the levers and mechanisms by which money flows around the US (and outside) is one of the most terrifying acts of this fascist regime. The grenade throwers and flame torch wielders have won…and they didn’t even need Matt Gaetz in the end to torch the federal govt.
