People often assume that I can do things most people find easy because I'm "so smart." That's actually not how any of this works. I genuinely don't understand how anyone can do anything at all. I'm fully at sea over here.

Society is going to "collapse" when we all lose access to money due to a global server outage caused by a large solar flare. There will be a limited cash economy where 20s are like singles. Trade will be done in alternative currencies or directly in commodities or labor.

Today hardly any of my 11th graders had ever heard of the North Star. Fewer still already knew how the night sky moved when they walked into the classroom. Why are we humans separating ourselves from this knowledge?

People need to look at the night sky more. They need to understand how the sky works. If one thing horrifies me about today's lifestyle, it's that we don't look at the sky nearly enough. Our minds need that.

I'm just gonna say it: I kinda like Avi Loeb. He's an absolute nut case, but I think it's important that *somebody* thinks about this stuff. There's nothing supernatural about the idea of aliens, and we should always consider alternate hypotheses until they can be disproven.

I have been using gpt 5 for a few days now, and it really does strike me as significantly smarter than the gpt 4 family. A lot of people were angry that openai removed access to 4o, and I genuinely think that the company is assuming that people want to talk to a smarter interlocutor. They don't.
